ARMS assists in China Quake David Skeat Sunday, April 18th 2010
ARMS is assisting the victims of the China earthquake by providing funding for an Australian doctor who has deployed into the earthquake zone. The earthquake which occurred at approx 7:50 A.M. local time on April 14th has killed more than 1100 people and displaced many thousands more in the Qinghai region close to Mongolia.
The doctor who must remain anonymous for security reasons approached ARMS for funding to pay the cost of deploying into the earthquake zone. ARMS was able to assist with grant from its Emergency Response Fund.
The doctor reports that each doctor on the team that he has gone in with is seeing more that 50 patients a day. Altitude sickness is an issue for team members, as is tiredness with the long days that are involved on site.
ARMS is fundraising also the help the doctor provide a care kit for the victims of the quake. These kits include; a small washpan, a cup, a bowl, chopsticks, washcloths, soap, wet wipes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, long underwear, pajamas (adult size), cookies, crackers, fruit (apples or oranges), bread, plastic or linen bag (to put items into for distribution)
Added items for children include; soft colorful blanket, stuffed animal, pajamas (kids size), kids book, coloring book, crayons, kids game.
Funds donated to this appeal will pay deployment costs and the costs of providing the care kits.
